# Smart reminders

Smart is the default reminder mode. Instead of firing at fixed times, it checks how your day is going and only nudges you when you are genuinely behind - and once it knows your routine, it nudges just before you usually walk.

## When a smart reminder is sent

- Only when you are behind pace for the time of day. Stepzy judges pace against a typical day's activity curve, so a quiet morning is not counted as behind.
- Never once today's goal is met.
- Never on a [skipped](https://getstepzy.com/docs/streak-skips) or [paused](https://getstepzy.com/docs/streak-pause) day.
- At most two a day.
- Never during quiet hours, or in the half hour before they start.
- Never before 11 AM.

## Learning your walking time

Stepzy looks at the last four weeks of your hourly steps to find the two-hour window when you usually walk, separately for weekdays and weekends. It needs about a week of days with steps before it has a pattern. Until then, reminders use standard check-in times: 12 PM, 3:30 PM, 6:30 PM and 8:30 PM.

Once it has a usual window for that kind of day, the check-ins become: 30 minutes before that walk (only if that is 11 AM or later), 3:30 PM, and the evening streak slot. The pre-walk reminder names your own walk and whether it would close the day. You can see what it has learned in [Profile and walking pattern](https://getstepzy.com/docs/profile-and-walking-pattern).

## Streak on the line

If you have a streak of three days or more and today's goal is still open, Stepzy keeps one evening reminder for a streak on the line nudge, even if you are on pace. It lands at 6:30 PM, or 30 minutes before your usual walk if that is in the evening. It counts toward the two a day.

## Quiet hours

Quiet hours default to 9 PM until 8 AM. Change them in Settings, then Reminders, under QUIET HOURS. Setting the start and end to the same hour turns quiet hours off.

## Snooze

Press and hold a smart reminder and choose Snooze 1 hour to get it again later.

## Frequently asked questions

### I prefer reminders at set times.

Switch the mode to Fixed times in Settings, then Reminders. You get morning, midday and evening reminders at times you choose. See [Notifications](https://getstepzy.com/docs/notifications).

### Why did I get no reminder today?

Most likely you were on pace, your goal was already met, or the day was skipped or paused. That is the point: smart reminders stay quiet when you are already moving.
