Adaptive goal suggestions

A goal set six months ago is a goal set for a different person. Stepzy keeps an eye on your actual pattern and offers to move the target when it has clearly drifted out of step with reality.

How a suggestion appears

When your recent activity has consistently run above or below your goal, a card appears on the Today screen with one of two headings:

  • You're outpacing your goal - your baseline has risen and the target is now too easy.
  • Goal tune-up - your baseline has dropped and the target is getting in the way rather than helping.

The card explains the change in plain language and offers two buttons: Apply and Not now.

Nothing changes without your tap

Stepzy never edits your goal on its own. Apply sets the new number; Not now dismisses the card and leaves your goal exactly as it was. Suggestions only show while you are viewing today, never while you are browsing history.

If notifications are on, Stepzy may also send a nudge - titled Ready for a bigger goal? or Let's tune your goal - which simply asks you to open the app and decide. See Notifications and reminders.

Why lowering a goal is not failure

A target you miss four days out of seven stops being motivating and starts being noise. Dropping it to something you clear most days rebuilds the streak habit, and you can raise it again later. The reasoning is in How to build a walking habit that actually sticks.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn adaptive suggestions off?

There is no switch for the card itself, but tapping Not now dismisses it and nothing changes. Turning off Enable Notifications in Settings stops the matching push notification.

Does applying a suggestion affect my streak?

No. Past days keep the grade they earned under the goal that was active then. The new number applies from today onward.

How does it work with split goals?

Applying a suggestion updates your schedule, keeping whichever mode you use. See Weekday, weekend and custom goals.
