Connecting Stepzy to Apple Health

Stepzy is built on Apple HealthKit. It does not run its own pedometer or its own account system - it reads the step and workout data your iPhone and Apple Watch already record into Health, which is why there is nothing to sign up for.

What Stepzy reads

During setup, iOS shows a permission sheet listing every data type Stepzy asks to read. Granting all of them gives you the full app; granting only some means the matching screens stay empty.

Health dataUsed for
Step countThe core daily count, history, streaks and widgets
Walking + running distanceThe distance figure on the Today screen and in workouts
Flights climbedThe floors line on the distance card
WorkoutsThe Workouts tab and yearly workout totals
Workout routesRoute maps and the 3D route flyover
Heart rate and resting heart rateAverage heart rate, the workout heart rate graph and heart rate zones
Active energyCalories on the Today screen and in workouts
Heart rate variability, VO2 max, respiratory rateExtra workout detail metrics
Body mass and heightYour BMI card and BMI trend
Date of birthCalculating your maximum heart rate for zone thresholds

What Stepzy writes back

Stepzy writes only two things into Apple Health: body mass and height. Both come from you typing them in - either the Body Measurements sheet in Settings, or the Log Weight sheet on the BMI screen. Steps, workouts, distance and calories are read-only; Stepzy never writes activity data.

Where your data lives

Health data stays on your device and in Apple's own encrypted sync. Stepzy does not sell or share it. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Granting permission after you skipped it

If you tapped Don't Allow, or turned off some categories, Stepzy will show empty screens and a zero step count. To fix it:

  1. Open Stepzy and tap the gear icon in the top right.
  2. Scroll to the HEALTH section. The Authorization Status row shows Authorized, Denied, Not Set or Unknown.
  3. If it is not Authorized, tap Grant HealthKit Permission and allow everything on the iOS sheet.
  4. If iOS does not show the sheet again, tap Open Health App instead. In Health, go to the Sharing tab, tap Apps & Services, choose Stepzy, then Turn On All.
  5. Return to Stepzy and pull down on the Today screen to refresh.
iOS only asks once

Once you have answered a HealthKit prompt for a given data type, iOS will not ask again from inside the app. After the first time, permission changes have to be made in the Health app itself.

Checking permission in the Health app

  1. Open the Health app.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top right.
  3. Tap Apps & Services, then Stepzy.
  4. Review the list. Anything switched off will be missing from Stepzy.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Stepzy show 0 steps after I allowed access?

Most often one category was left off, or the app needs a refresh. Work through Steps not updating for the full checklist.

Do I have to allow every category?

No, but each one you decline removes a feature. Step count is the only genuinely required one - without it Stepzy has nothing to show.

Can Stepzy see my other health data?

Only the types listed above, and only after you approve them. HealthKit gives apps access per data type, and Stepzy never requests anything outside that list.

Does revoking access delete my history?

No. Your data stays in Apple Health. Re-granting access brings everything straight back.

Stepzy is free on the App Store, for iPhone and Apple Watch.
