AI Coach
AI Coach reads the activity Stepzy already tracks and turns it into plain-language coaching: how a session went, what to work on, and what to do with the rest of your day. It runs entirely on your iPhone using Apple Intelligence, so your health data never leaves the device.
What it gives you
- Assessment - a short read on how the session or the day went, leading with whatever actually stands out.
- Tips - three suggestions tied to your own numbers, not generic advice.
- Try next time - one thing to focus on in your next session.
- Chat - ask follow-up questions about the same activity and get answers grounded in your real data.
Where to find it
- Workout detail - open any workout and the coach sits below the stats, with a Chat with your workout data button.
- Today - a compact card with the assessment and one next step, plus a sparkles button in the toolbar that opens chat about your day.
- Insights - a section that narrates the trends already on that screen.
Requirements
AI Coach needs iOS 26 or later on an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. On any device that does not qualify, Stepzy shows its standard insight card instead - you lose the coach, not the screen.
The model runs on your iPhone through Apple's Foundation Models framework. Your steps, workouts and heart rate are never sent to Stepzy or to any third party for this feature. There is no API key, no account, and it works in aeroplane mode.
How it stays accurate
Every number the coach quotes is calculated by Stepzy in advance and handed to the model as a fact. The model's job is to explain those figures, never to work them out. Apple lists arithmetic among the on-device model's weaker areas, so pace, splits, heart-rate zone minutes, goal progress and day-to-day comparisons are all computed before the model ever sees them.
For workouts with a recorded route, Stepzy derives your per-kilometre or per-mile splits from the route's own timestamps, and compares the session against your recent workouts of the same type - so the coach can tell you this was your fastest average pace rather than only describing the run in isolation.
What it costs
The assessment is free for everyone, always. Tips and Try next time are part of Stepzy Pro, after a few full generations so you can see what they look like first. Because the model runs on your device there are no usage limits and no per-request cost.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the coach not appear on my iPhone?
It requires iOS 26 or later on an Apple Intelligence capable iPhone, with the feature enabled in Settings. Stepzy shows the reason in place of the card when it can tell which one applies.
Can it be wrong?
The figures come from your own Health data and are calculated by Stepzy, but the wording around them is generated and can be clumsy or overstated. Stepzy labels this in the app for the same reason Apple asks apps to: treat it as a helpful read, not a medical opinion.
Is this medical advice?
No. AI Coach describes activity you have already recorded and suggests training adjustments. It does not diagnose anything, and it is instructed not to. Talk to a clinician about symptoms or health conditions.
Does it work offline?
Yes. The model is on your iPhone, so coaching and chat both work with no connection.
